Ivi's History Scrolls
|
Ivi is like a history teacher in training. She never tires of reading up on history. Her fascination seems to be with human diseases and wars, most often because Gummies typically don't wage war or get seriously sick. However, her true fascination is with plagues and sicknesses, mainly in a search for answers. Her clan died of an illness and she never tires of trying to figure out which one. Here, she shares some of her knowledge. |

BARBIC FEVER Weakness, Sickness, Hallucination and "The Fever" Strands
Created by Ulisa Affects: Only Barbic Clans Symptoms: Weakness Strand High to moderate fever, increased appetite, lack of energy and physical strength, hot and cold flashes, fevered dreams, increased need for sleep, inability to feel some of the limbs at hour to three hour intervals, prickly feeling in the feet and hands, loss of voice. The older the victim, the worse the case. In many cases of much older Barbics, it _can_ kill because the body's diaphragm is so deprived of strength it will stop working. But all in all, the sickness will not kill but will last about a week or two. It is considered the worst of the strands because of the Barbic belief in being strong and while one has this illness, they have to be dependent on their clan members for everything: being fed, help to the bathroom, being bathed and all the like. It is mainly a cut to pride for older Barbics and an annoyance of pain to children but it does have a much a higher mortality rate than the other strands and is considered the most dangerous.. Mortality Rate: 15%--45% Sickness Stand High and sudden fever, no appetite, dizzy spells that come and go, nausea, increased need of liquids, night sweats, a rash of dark red on the palms and soles of the feet, no dreams, sore throat, raspy voice, stomach pains, swollen tonsils. The sickness strand is considered the easiest strand to survive and it is the most common. It is more an annoyance than anything else but it lasts the longest, sometimes a month. Nausea is the most frequent symptom and the easiest to recognize. Nausea hits up to fifteen to thirty times a day so sleep is rare and water is constantly given. It hits children the hardest, mainly because it disrupts the sleep pattern. Mortality Rate: 0%--5% Hallucination Strand Low to moderate fever, no appetite, swollen eyes and face, migraines, constant dizzy spells, increased sleep, fevered dreams, hallucinations, fever chills, dry throat, dry eyes, night terrors, sinus pain. The hallucination strand is the rarest but is often the scariest to watch. It strikes children up to fifteen easiest and can be horrifying for parents to watch. Many times, they have to watch their children cry out for help or fight against invisible enemies. It lasts the shortest about of time, four days at the most although the average length is about two days. Mortality Rate: 3%--5% "The Fever" Strand A mix of all strands' symptoms: moderate fever, dizziness, loss of appetite, disturbed sleep, dry eyes, loss of balance, increased need of water, fever chills, swollen feet and hands, rash of purple and red all over the body, desire to just sleep due to lack of deep sleep, hallucinations, loss of bodily function control and blurred vision. The rarest and deadliest of the strands, The Fever is the most deadly of any Barbic sickness. Mortality Rate: 90%-98% |

CUBS' FEVER Created by Jade Griffin Affects: Only Royal and Glen Clans Symptoms: Cold sweat, high fever, no appetite, hard to keep liquids down, chill, body ache, hallucinations. The worst of it is the fever. It rises so quickly that that alone often is the killer. The sickness is called Cubs' Fever because very often it hits the cubs. It is often thought of as best to let it pass its course when the cub is young because it gets more deadly as age increases. Cubs Fever is hardly ever fatal with children but as age increases, so does its danger. For a middle-aged creatures, it is a fifty-fifty chance of death and with elders, it is almost always fatal. Mortality Rate: 25%--75% |
